LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Leonard R. Hendrix upon the occasion
of his retirement after more than 36 years of dedicated service as a
public servant

WHEREAS, In the course of the evolving development of the Empire State,
there have emerged certain public servants of truly magnanimous conduct
and bearing and we call these individuals "distinguished citizens" of
the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Leonard R. Hendrix, Herkimer County legislator, District No. 6, upon the
occasion of his retirement after more than 36 years of dedicated service
as a public servant to be celebrated with a dinner on Friday, January
17, 2014, at Francesca's Banquet Hall, Ilion, New York; and
WHEREAS, Leonard R. Hendrix began his tenure with the Herkimer County
Legislature on February 2, 1977 to fill the unexpired term of Victor
Norman; his first committee assignments included: county planning and
development (chair); committees on rules & legislation, county proper-
ties, highways and education; and
WHEREAS, He served as chairman of the county legislature from 2003
through 2007; he has served on every major committee, many as committee
chair, throughout his more than 36 years on the county legislature; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Ilion, Leonard R. Hendrix has served
as a trustee of Herkimer County Community College, as a member of the
jury board, health services advisory board, alternatives to incarcera-
tion advisory board and fire advisory board; and
WHEREAS, During the entire period of his public service, a period of
constructive involvement, Leonard R. Hendrix has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Leonard R. Hendrix, along with his wife, Sandy, and
son, Scott, were honored by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce with
the Milestone Award, celebrating 120 years of their funeral service
business (Whiter-Hendrix) in Ilion; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, with him throughout have been their
three children, as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandchild,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Leonard R. Hendrix has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Leonard R. Hendrix upon the occasion of his retirement after
more than 36 years of dedicated service as a public servant; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Leonard R. Hendrix.
