LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Williamson Free Public Library
upon the occasion of celebrating the 100th year of its New York State
Certificate of Registration

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York are reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Williamson Free Public Library upon the occasion of celebrating the
100th year of its New York State Certificate of Registration, to be held
on Saturday, October 5, 2013; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be commemorated with the debut
of the library's Williamson History Machine Project, an interactive
kiosk created in collaboration with the Pultneyville Historical Society
celebrating the Town of Williamson's history, followed by a cake cutting
ceremony; and
WHEREAS, The Williamson Free Public Library was first organized in
1911, and received its Certificate of Registration from New York State
on September 25, 1913; and
WHEREAS, With its humble beginnings in donated space of the William
and Scott Printing offices, the Williamson Free Public Library was
housed in several spaces before establishing its central location on the
corner of East Main Street and Maple Avenue in 1949, via the late
Charles F. Garfield, in memory of his wife Myra Shipley Garfield; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, to meet the increased demand for library
services, the Trustees of the Williamson Free Public Library had a new
building constructed on the property in 1973; this building served as
the library until 2004 when it moved to its current location as part of
the Williamson Town Complex; and
WHEREAS, Continually placing as one of the top circulating libraries
within the Pioneer Library System, the Williamson Free Public Library
proudly serves the Town of Williamson, providing access to the materi-
als, technology and resources residents need, as well as providing
accessible space to gather within the community for information and
lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an insti-
tution of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in it deliberations to
commend the Williamson Free Public Library upon the occasion of cele-
brating the 100th year of its New York State Certificate of Registra-
tion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Williamson Free Public Library.
