LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending veteran Sergeant David Terrance Fox
for his distinguished service to his country as a member of the United
States Marine Corps

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body and the people
of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women have served their country; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend veteran
Sergeant David Terrance Fox for his distinguished service to his country
as a member of the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, Born September 1, 1948, David Terrance Fox served as a member
of the United States Marine Corps for four years, two and a half years
of which he spent in Foreign Service with the First Marine Air Wing in
the Republic of South Vietnam, and then aboard the USS Guam/Second
Marine Air Wing in the Peruvian Disaster Relief; he engaged in over
2,000 hours of combat fights in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, David Terrance Fox, at the time a Lance Corporal, received
the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism and Extraordinary Achievement
in aerial flight while serving with the (HMM) Helicopter Squadron 161
Provisional Marine Air Group 39 during an emergency rescue mission of
two reconnaissance teams heavily engaged in combat on May 15, 1969; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Fox's courage, superior professionalism and
unwavering devotion to duty in the face of great danger were instru-
mental in the accomplishment of the hazardous mission, and were in keep-
ing with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United
States Naval Service; this year will mark the 45th Anniversary of this
exemplary soldier's act of valor; and
WHEREAS, In addition, David Terrance Fox earned numerous Decorations
some of which include, New York State Conspicuous Service Cross with ten
Gold and three Silver Cross Attachments, Air Medal with No. 53 (Strike
Flight Awards), Marine Air Crewman's Badge with three Combat Stars, Navy
Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and the New
York State Conspicuous Service Star with two Silver Shields; and
WHEREAS, After returning home to New York State, David Terrance
"Terry" Fox was appointed to the Troy Fire Department as a Firefighter
in 1977; in 1980, he was trained as a Paramedic and was subsequently
promoted to Lieutenant in 1986, and then Captain in 1994; and
WHEREAS, David Terrance Fox has exhibited his patriotism both at home
and abroad, demonstrating his love for his country and meriting forever-
more, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend veteran Sergeant David Terrance Fox for his distinguished
service to his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Terrance Fox.
