LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Randy Shotland upon the occasion of
being named 2013 Man of the Year by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Randy Shotland has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Randy Shot-
land upon the occasion of being named 2013 Man of the Year by the
Merrick Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated in recognition of
Randy Shotland's lifetime of community service and activism, at the
Chamber's Installation Dinner on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the
Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, President of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, Randy Shotland
has lived in Merrick his entire life, and was part of the first class to
graduate from John F. Kennedy High School in 1966; his concern for the
welfare of Merrick's business districts runs deep, as his mother owned a
retail store on Merrick Avenue when he was growing up in the 1960's; and
WHEREAS, After earning a degree from both the Fashion Institute of
Technology and Pace University, Randy Shotland spent nearly 30 years
running companies in the clothing industry; twelve years ago he transi-
tioned into financial planning work at New York Life, where today he
holds the esteemed position of Senior Agent; and
WHEREAS, As President of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce for the last
three years, Randy Shotland is dedicated to giving back to the people
and community he has been a part of for 63 years; he is there at
ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses, and to welcome new resi-
dents to the community; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Randy Shotland helps put together child iden-
tification programs for local organizations, conducts seminars for local
schools on financial awareness and assists numerous charities with
fundraising efforts; and
WHEREAS, Randy Shotland has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Randy Shotland has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, their two children,
and two granddaughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Randy Shotland has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Randy Shotland upon the occasion of being named 2013 Man of the
Year by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Randy Shotland.
