LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John Urschel upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those esteemed collegians within the State of New York who
distinguish themselves through outstanding achievements in athletic
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
Urschel upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition;
and
WHEREAS, Canisius High School alumnus and current Penn State Universi-
ty offensive lineman John Urschel, was recently selected to represent
the players of the Big Ten Football Conference to give the keynote
address at the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon; and
WHEREAS, In high school, John Urschel was an All-Western New York
football player and winner of the Trench Trophy award as a senior; he is
a first-team All-Big Ten guard and first-team CoSIDA Academic All-Ameri-
can and has been put on the watch list this year for the Outland and
Rotary Lombardi Awards; and
WHEREAS, Upholding a 4.0 GPA, John Urschel finished his undergraduate
studies in three years earning his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, and
last year completing his first Master's Degree in Mathematics, and is in
another Master's degree program to receive a degree in Math Education;
and
WHEREAS, John Urschel's keynote speech centered around four goal-at-
taining topics, including mastering your craft as a football player;
making a positive mark in your community; helping younger players follow
in your footsteps; and properly preparing for the end of your football
career; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, John Urschel's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Urschel upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Urschel.
