LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dash's Market upon the occasion of its
designation as 2014 Business of the Year by the Clarence Chamber of
Commerce, on February 27, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in communities across New York State are
enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of businesses, organiza-
tions, and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dash's Market upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2014 Business of the Year Award by the Clarence Chamber of Commerce;
this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Chamber's Annual
Awards Dinner, to be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Samuel's
Grande Manor, Williamsville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dash's Market, a Western New York, family-owned business, is
being honored for its sparkling success, and its tradition of supporting
and giving back to the community; and
WHEREAS, In 1923, Joseph and Mary Dash opened the first Dash's Market
on the East Side of Buffalo; now more than 90 years later, the Dash
family, through the careful guidance of three generations, has prospered
and evolved in an industry with giants surrounding them in a very
competitive food environment, growing from a single market to its
current four stores; it has also owned several successful Tops Markets;
and
WHEREAS, Risk takers and innovators throughout the years, the Dash
family owner/operators pride themselves as being old-fashioned grocers
that listen to and respond to their customers' needs, and incorporate
cutting edge ideas into their business; and
WHEREAS, Dash's Market was the first market with environmentally
friendly concrete floors and double decker shopping carts as well as the
first local to eliminate cigarette sales, years ahead of all other oper-
ators; and
WHEREAS, Dash's Market plays an important role in the regional econo-
my; it employs 500 workers and are also big supporters of locally made
products, giving many local entrepreneurs their start; and
WHEREAS, Dash's Market has supported many local organizations over the
years, and has awarded fifteen annual scholarships for employees; it
marked its 90th Anniversary with the announcement of its Frank and
Virginia Dash Education Fund; which recognizes high school students who
reflect the work ethic and values of the Dash family through awarding
the Community Service Hero Award scholarships; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Dash's Market, a
business that makes the wellbeing of its vendors, employees, customers,
and community its concern; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when businesses
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dash's Market upon the occasion of its designation as 2014 Busi-
ness of the Year by the Clarence Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dash's Market.
