LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary Ann Marrero upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award by
Moffat Library on December 8, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary
Ann Marrero upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
inaugural 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award by Moffat Library on December
8, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann Marrero came to Moffat Library in 2005 when she
reignited the library's long-defunct Friends group, and since then, she
hasn't stopped giving of her time and energies; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as President of the Friends of Moffat
Library for the past eight years, Mary Ann Marrero has been a Library
Trustee for five years, and today, continues to work with the Historic
Moffat Library Building Committee; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mary Ann Marrero has volunteered for numerous
local organizations, including the Literacy Volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, volunteerism promotes family and community soli-
darity; most importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and
charitable endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Mary Ann Marrero has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary Ann Marrero upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Volunteer of the Year Award by Moffat Library; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Ann Marrero.
