LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Jan and Albert Jan upon the
occasion of being named Long Island Young Scholars of Mathematics by the
Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success in
educational excellence, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Michael Jan
and Albert Jan, upon the occasion of being named Long Island Young Scho-
lars of Mathematics by the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for
Gifted and Talented Students held at SUNY College at Old Westbury; and
WHEREAS, Michael Jan is an eighth grader from Great Neck North Middle
School, and Albert Jan is a fifth grader from Baker School; through
their diligence and rigorous efforts, these two brothers have achieved
this scholastic accomplishment; and
WHEREAS, Michael Jan and Albert Jan are among 80 Scholars selected
from some 700 top-ranking Long Island math students who competed in
their grade; and
WHEREAS, Selection of such prestigious academic recognition, recog-
nizes through competitive examinations and professional recommendations,
that these students are among the top one-tenth of one percent of math
students in their grade; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their principal and
teachers; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Michael and Albert
Jan, able scholars, recognizing the value of their labors and the prom-
ise of their future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of this meritorious achievement, to congratulate Michael Jan
and Albert Jan upon the occasion of receiving the Long Island Young
Scholars of Mathematics by the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for
Gifted and Talented Students; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Jan and Albert Jan.
