LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Elmont Memorial's Model United
Nations Team upon the occasion of capturing the Best Small Delegation
Award at the WE Model United Nations Conference

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, The Model United Nations Team, in achieving this high academ-
ic honor, may take just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the
spirit of excellence they bring to their family, friends, community and
school, Elmont Memorial; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate and pay
tribute to Elmont Memorial's Model United Nations team upon the occasion
of winning the Best Small Delegation Award at the WE Model United
Nations Conference in Beijing, China, July 31st through August 4, 2013;
and
WHEREAS, The Model United Nations Team includes: James Bailey, Michael
Bediako, Christian Butron, Leanna Faulk, Isaiah Genao, Chukwudi Kanu,
Darnell Marescot, Ashley Reese and Mykelle Richburg; the Team were under
the able leadership of their advisors, Mel Kohn, Nkenge Gilliam, Athena
Allen, Frank Nuara, and Principal, John Capozzi; and
WHEREAS, Elmont Memorial was one of only three teams from the United
States to participate in the invitation-only conference in Beijing; they
competed against 1,500 students from 22 different countries; and
WHEREAS, WE Model United Nations Conference, an international educa-
tion platform, provides young people around the world opportunities to
improve their international communication and cooperation skills; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elmont Memorial's Model United Nations Team upon the occa-
sion of capturing the Best Small Delegation Award at the WE Model United
Nations Conference, and to extend its wishes for continued success
throughout their school years and beyond; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned students, advisors, and principal.
