LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Deacon Francis X. Bice upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2013 Timothy J. Coughlin '76
Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to St. Mary's High School

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is also the practice of this Legislative Body that indi-
viduals who distinguish themselves in service to their faith and commu-
nity merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Deacon Francis X. Bice upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2013 Timothy J. Coughlin '76 Memorial Award for Outstanding
Contributions to St. Mary's High School; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion, hosted by St. Mary's High School,
was celebrated at the Fall Alumni Reception and Dinner culminating in
the 21st Annual Don Monti Memorial Golf Classic, on Thursday, September
26, 2013, at Plandome Country Club, Plandome Manor, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Coughlin Family of Manhasset established the Timothy J.
Coughlin '76 Memorial Award in 2003; the award is presented annually in
memory of Tim Coughlin, known for his perseverance and commitment to
family, to bestow honor on a person who exemplifies the true spirit of
Christianity through dedication to St. Mary's, and service to others;
and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Manhasset, Francis X. Bice has always had
a special relationship with St. Mary's; he and his four siblings
attended St. Mary's Elementary School, and the Church of St. Mary was
instrumental in shaping his strong faith; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Francis X. Bice, affectionately known as Frank,
has taught religious education, coached Junior Varsity Lacrosse, and
serves as a Deacon at St. Mary's; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of the Canterbury School and Siena College, Fran-
cis X. Bice currently teaches Theology at Sacred Heart Academy; he has
advanced degrees from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and Yale
University, and is a member of the Siena College Sports Hall of Fame for
both Football and Lacrosse; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career thus far, Francis X. Bice has brought
an uncompromising standard of excellence to his work and a warm sense of
caring and concern to every young person he educates; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Deacon Francis X. Bice upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2013 Timothy J. Coughlin '76 Memorial Award for
Outstanding Contributions to St. Mary's High School; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Deacon Francis X. Bice.
