LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Bishop Howard J. Hubbard upon the
occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the
Priesthood which was celebrated on Sunday, October 20, 2013

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those individuals who have contributed to the ethical and
spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commending Bishop
Howard J. Hubbard upon the occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary
of his Ordination to the Priesthood which was celebrated on Sunday,
October 20, 2013, at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Alba-
ny, New York; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Howard J. Hubbard was born in Troy, New York, and
attended St. Patrick's School and LaSalle Institute prior to entering
the Seminary in 1956; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Howard J. Hubbard was ordained in Rome, Italy, on
December 18, 1963; prior to being consecrated Bishop of the Roman
Catholic Diocese of Albany in 1977, he served as Associate Pastor of
both St. Joseph's Church in Schenectady, New York, and Cathedral of The
Immaculate Conception in Albany, New York; he also served as Chaplain at
The Convent of The Sacred Heart in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his service as a Bishop and a Priest, Bishop
Howard J. Hubbard established Providence House, a referral and crisis
intervention center, and Hope House, a residential treatment facility
for those with addictions; furthermore, he helped found Livcorp, an
organization whose mission is to assist those with developmental disa-
bilities; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Howard J. Hubbard is a guiding light for spiritual
renewal and a constant source of aid and compassion for his parishioners
and community members throughout the 14 counties which comprise the
Albany Diocese; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given enlightenment,
guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and has adminis-
tered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporeal needs
of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate Bishop Howard J. Hubbard upon the occasion of celebrating
the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood which was cele-
brated on Sunday, October 20, 2013, fully confident that this commem-
oration reflects the belief in those values which enhance the dignity
and purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bishop Howard J. Hubbard.
