LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Elmira AARP
Chapter 276, to be celebrated April 16, 2014

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for retired and senior
citizens, and have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is pleased to commemorate the
50th Anniversary of Elmira AARP Chapter 276, to be celebrated with a
Luncheon at Elmira Holiday Inn-Riverview on Wednesday, April 16, 2014;
and
WHEREAS, The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is a
nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that helps people 50 and older
improve the quality of their lives; and
WHEREAS, Elmira AARP Chapter 276 is a proud and vital part of New York
State's 2.7 million AARP members; for 50 years, this vibrant organiza-
tion has worked unceasingly to make the lives of all seniors more
secure, protected and meaningful; and
WHEREAS, Elmira AARP Chapter 276 is respected and admired throughout
the community for its work; the organization is involved in various
community service activities, and are effective policy advocates at
forums and town hall meetings; and
WHEREAS, The accomplishments of the Elmira AARP Chapter 276 are in
direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated members whose
involvement is and has been characterized by an impressive commitment,
an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the people it serves;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Elmira AARP Chapter 276, and to
wish its members continued success in its future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elmira AARP Chapter 276.
