LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The North Country Arts Council upon
the occasion of its dedication to developing and promoting the arts in
Northern New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to musical organizations whose commitment and creative talents have
contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of the citizens
of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The North Country Arts Council upon the occasion of its dedication to
developing and promoting the arts in Northern New York; and
WHEREAS, Formerly known as The North Country Artists Guild when it was
established in 1949, this illustrious council began as a not-for-profit
arts organization whose mission was providing promotional opportunities
to fine artists; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, the guild expanded its mission and changed its name
to The North Country Arts Council to reflect its hope of encompassing
all arts; and
WHEREAS, The North Country Arts Council offers a multitude of valuable
resources for both emerging and established artists including program-
ming, classes, events, and other cultural opportunities through educa-
tion, presentation, and community initiatives; and
WHEREAS, In addition, The North Country Arts Council operates Arts on
the Square, which is a community arts space for all residents of the
North Country, and represents an investment in the revitalization of
Downtown Watertown; and
WHEREAS, The North Country Arts Council continues to be a clearing
house of opportunities for artists as well as an essential part of the
community by offering opportunities for the people of the North Country
to immerse themselves in art and culture; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the importance of the
performing arts, which act to inspire, enlighten, and unify people from
all cultural backgrounds through the transcendent power of human
expression; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the arts of
our Nation, to honor our artists, and to express our appreciation to
everyone who patronizes the arts; and as we celebrate the arts, we cele-
brate and give thanks to our American freedom, the only atmosphere in
which artists can truly create and in which art is truly the expression
of the soul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The North Country Arts Council upon the occasion of its dedi-
cation to developing and promoting the arts in Northern New York; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The North Country Arts Council.
