LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of William Beckett Wrigley
III, distinguished police officer and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its grateful
appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of a coura-
geous police officer who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family, community and the Hudson Police Depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the passing of City of Hudson Police Officer William Beckett
Wrigley III, who, after serving with dedication, loyalty and compassion,
devoted his purposeful life and career to serve and protect; and
WHEREAS, The son of William J. and Deidre (March) Wrigley, Jr.,
William Beckett Wrigley III was born August 22, 1978, in Hudson, New
York; and
WHEREAS, William Beckett Wrigley III, a resident of Livingston, New
York died on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the age of 35; and
WHEREAS, A 1997 graduate of Ichabod Crane High School in Valatie,
William Beckett Wrigley III, affectionately known to many as Billy, was
a United States Navy Veteran, serving in the Persian Gulf War from 1999
to 2000; and
WHEREAS, William Beckett Wrigley III served as a Hudson Police Officer
for 11 years; he was a Golden Shellback, crossing the Equator twice, as
well as a member of the Stuyvesant Falls VFW No. 9593 and a fourth
generation member of Hudson Elks Lodge No. 787; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
William J. Wrigley Sr., and his maternal grandfather, Ellsworth March,
William Beckett Wrigley III is survived by his loving parents, Mr. and
Mrs. William J. Wrigley, Jr., his brother, Timothy John Wrigley, his
maternal grandmother, Adrienne Saltmarsh, as well as many aunts, uncles
and cousins; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Police Officer William
Beckett Wrigley III leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served
and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful
tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of William Beckett Wrigley III, distinguished police
officer and devoted member of his community, noting the significance of
his contributions on behalf of the citizens of this noble Empire State
and expressing its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of William Beckett Wrigley III.
