LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 74th Anniversary of the signing
of the "Pakistan Resolution" and reaffirming the bond of a close
relationship between New York State and Pakistan

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to reaffirm its
support of the State of Pakistan and of the bonds the people of the City
and State of New York share with the people of Pakistan; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 74th
Anniversary of the signing of the "Pakistan Resolution" and reaffirming
the bond of a close relationship between New York State and Pakistan;
and
WHEREAS, The people of Pakistan commemorate their National Day in
remembrance of the "Pakistan Resolution" which was adopted in the city
of Lahore on March 23, 1940; and
WHEREAS, Seventy-four years ago, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sikander Hayat
Khan, and other visionaries declared their aspirations of self-determi-
nation and democracy; and
WHEREAS, Today our two nations continue to partner in education,
health, and economic development; and
WHEREAS, Barack H. Obama, the President of the United States,
expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan who continue to rebuild
following the devastating floods of 2010 which impacted over 20,000,000
people; and
WHEREAS, Our nation and state are enriched by Pakistani-Americans who
excel as physicians, entrepreneurs, attorneys, students, members of our
armed forces and in many other professions; and
WHEREAS, Pakistan's National Day is an extraordinary and joyous oppor-
tunity for the people of the State of New York, and for all associates
of Pakistan; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 74th Anniversary of the signing of the "Pakistan Resol-
ution" and reaffirming the bond of a close relationship between New York
State and Pakistan.
