LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Albany Police Athletic League upon
the occasion of its 25th Anniversary of serving the Capital Region

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to those programs which build stronger communities by providing positive
role models and a safe and fun environment for the children of the Capi-
tal Region; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Albany Police Athletic League upon the occasion of its 25th Anniversary
of serving the Capital Region; in recognition of this milestone, the
League held its Capital Campaign on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the
Albany Hilton Hotel; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, a group of dedicated individuals came together with
a common goal in looking to develop an organization that would provide
recreational and educational juvenile crime prevention programs for the
youth of Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS. Since its inception, the Albany Police Athletic League estab-
lished numerous programs and initiatives to benefit the youth of Albany
including: summer camps, Holiday toy drives, and various clubs and
interest groups; in addition, the League started a city wide track
competition for fifth and sixth graders; and
WHEREAS, Currently, the Albany Police Athletic League provides after-
school activities and help with homework to over 4,000 public, private,
parochial, and charter school students; and
WHEREAS, Originally comprised of several individuals overseeing the
Albany Police Athletic League's inception and development, the Board of
Directors is now made up of concerned citizens and community leaders
from all walks of life and sworn members of the Albany Police Department
helping guide the Albany Police Athletic League in its mission; and
WHEREAS. A true asset to society, The Albany Police Athletic League
strives to provide quality recreational, educational and social opportu-
nities to Albany's most disadvantaged youth; it also seeks to reach
Albany's youth with its crime prevention and its healthy lifestyle
message; and
WHEREAS, The Albany Police Athletic League is a solid cornerstone of
the community, and stands ready to continue its important mission for
many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Albany Police Athletic League upon the occasion of its 25th
Anniversary of serving the Capital Region; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Albany Police Athletic League.
