LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring The Social Justice Center of Albany,
Inc. upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the Dorsey &
Elaine Whitehead Social Enterprise Award by the Community Loan Fund

WHEREAS, Institutions that provide opportunities for individuals and
organizations to build a healthier local economy and community are vital
to the growth and success of the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of New York State and our nation to pay
tribute to those who invest their time in helping with the growth of our
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor The
Social Justice Center of Albany, Inc. upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as recipient of the Dorsey & Elaine Whitehead Social Enterprise
Award by the Community Loan Fund on Tuesday, October 29, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Social Justice Center was chosen to receive this auspi-
cious award in recognition of its commitment to building strong communi-
ties by fighting oppression and forming alliances; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1981, The Social Justice Center of Albany,
Inc. is a grassroots community organization which, through its program-
ming and projects, confronts the roots and structures of oppression; and
WHEREAS, The Social Justice Center is functioning for a world in which
international conflicts are settled without war and in which people
treat each other with love, dignity, and justice; and
WHEREAS, The Social Justice Center is comprised of 18 affiliates and
member groups that strive to work in cooperative ways towards progres-
sive social change through mutual support and collective action; and
WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of this
Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission for economic and
environmental justice and fighting for the rights of all people to
achieve adequate housing, employment, health care, food and other needs,
The Social Justice Center of Albany, Inc. has demonstrated the value of
equal worth of all persons; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor The Social Justice Center of Albany, Inc. upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Dorsey & Elaine Whitehead Social Enter-
prise Award by the Community Loan Fund; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Social Justice Center of Albany, Inc.
