LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Roy F. Van Amburgh posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Albany County
Honor-A-Veteran Committee

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Roy
F. Van Amburgh posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Albany County Honor-A-Veteran Committee on
Monday, November 4, 2013, at North Albany Post No. 1610; and
WHEREAS, The Albany County Honor-A-Veteran Committee was formed to
honor a deceased Albany County veteran who served his country in time of
conflict; and
WHEREAS, Roy F. Van Amburgh served his country valiantly and hero-
ically in World War II; the people of this nation owe their freedom and
security to the men and women of the Armed Forces who have defended this
country during times of conflict; and
WHEREAS, Roy F. Van Amburgh was born on February 5, 1924, in Albany,
New York, and resided in Albany County his entire life; and
WHEREAS, On December 7, 1942, Roy F. Van Amburgh enlisted in the
United States Navy where he rose to the rank of Motor Machinist's Mate;
he also served on numerous vessels, including the USNAATSB Forwy-Corn-
wall Via 476 and NTSch-Lafayette, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of the war, Roy F. Van Amburgh returned
and began working for Henzel Electric Company; in addition, he was
employed as an Electrical Inspector for the City of Albany; and
WHEREAS, Roy F. Van Amburgh became an active community member with the
North Albany Little League, and was also a founding member of the North
Albany American Legion Post No. 1610; furthermore, he served as an Alba-
ny County Legislator for more than two decades; and
WHEREAS, Together, Roy F. Van Amburgh and his wife, Evelyn, had three
children, Bob, Karen and Mary; and six grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roy F. Van Amburgh posthumously upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by the Albany County Honor-A-Veteran
Committee; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Roy F. Van Amburgh.
