LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Jones
Beach Power Squadron

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of this
Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Jones Beach Power Squadron has served the interests of the
people of the Empire State by providing education and service to the
community for 60 years; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to the 60th Anniversary of the Jones
Beach Power Squadron to be celebrated at its Change of Watch Ceremony on
March 6, 2014, at the American Legion Hall in Seaford, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Jones Beach Power Squadron is a unit of the United States
Power Squadrons, a nationwide non-profit organization of boating enthu-
siasts, both power and sail, dedicated to promoting safe boating through
education; and
WHEREAS, One of the largest squadrons located on Long Island, Jones
Beach Power Squadron has been providing safe boating through education
and other community services for the south shore area of Long Island,
including both the town of Hempstead and Oyster Bay since 1954; and
WHEREAS, Jones Beach Power Squadron offers a plethora of year-round
activities during the boating season, such as several rendezvous and
raft ups where members gather to share fine food and socialize with
other boating enthusiasts, and other activities including holiday
parties, dinner dances, luncheons and more; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission to provide safe
boating through education, Jones Beach Power Squadron offers courses to
train students in many facets of boating, as well as several boating
courses which are open to the public; and
WHEREAS, Members of Jones Beach Power Squadron have the option of
enrolling in advanced or elective courses; advanced courses cover
Seamanship, Piloting, Advanced Piloting, Junior Navigator, and Senior
Navigator, which are taken in a specific order; elective courses cover
topics such as Cruise Planning, Engine Maintenance, Marine Electronics,
Weather Sail, and Instructor Development, which the participants may
take in any sequence; and
WHEREAS, Jones Beach Power Squadron has continually demonstrated an
impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting
enthusiasm for the quality of educational programs and opportunities
offered for the benefit of its students as well as for the entire commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional organization and its contributions to the local
and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Jones Beach Power Squadron; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jones Beach Power Squadron.
