LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anthony Zippo upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Orange Coun-
ty Veterans Service Agency
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who are devoted to the welfare of their community and its citizen-
ry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Anthony Zippo upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to the Orange County Veterans Service Agency; and
WHEREAS, Born in Schwab Hall, Germany, on March 14, 1947, Anthony
Zippo grew up in Rockland County, New York, and later became a resident
of Orange County, New York; and
WHEREAS, A 1980 graduate of Mercy College, Anthony Zippo holds a Bach-
elor's degree in Business Administration; he is a five-year veteran of
the United States Navy, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam as an
explosives expert; he received an Honorable Discharge in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Zippo was employed by the United States Postal
Service for two decades, holding positions as mail carrier, supervisor,
and postal manager; and
WHEREAS, In addition, for 10 years Anthony Zippo was the Local Veter-
ans Employment Representative for the New York State Department of
Labor, monitoring service to veterans and assisting them in finding
employment; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Zippo has served as Director of the Orange County
Veterans Service Agency for the past 13 years, and will officially
retire from this esteemed position on Friday, January 31, 2014; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as Director of the Orange County Veterans
Service Agency, Anthony Zippo led the effort to create a VA Veterans'
Center in Orange County for the treatment of returning combat veterans
suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; he improved the Orange
County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, supervised over 2,000 interments in
the cemetery, increased the veterans' outreach program, and organized
and supervised the Orange County Veterans Food Pantry and Veterans' Van;
and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Anthony Zippo, the Orange
County Veterans Service Agency has been declared by the VA Regional
Office to be number one in the region in number of claims processed and
the number of funding awards achieved for the veterans of Orange County;
and
WHEREAS, Active within his community, Anthony Zippo served as Treasur-
er for the Orange County American Legion, RECAP, and the National Purple
Heart Hall of Honor; he is an accredited representative of the American
Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the
Military Order of the Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he sits on the Board of Directors of the Castle
Point Veterans Administration - Medical Center, the Veterans Adminis-
tration Medical Center at Montrose, and the Orange County Veterans
Coalition; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Anthony Zippo over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to
others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anthony Zippo upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished service to the Orange County Veterans Service Agency;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anthony Zippo.
