LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Donald F. Kane, influential
community leader and honorable veteran of the United States Navy

WHEREAS, Donald F. Kane, who served in a number of government posts,
died Monday. He was 87; and
WHEREAS, He served-in the Navy during World War II and graduated from
Canisius College after attending school on the GI Bill; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kane's work in government service began as secretary to
South District Council Member Andrew Morrissey and continued as director
of recreation and then parks commissioner under Mayor Frank A. Sedita;
and
WHEREAS, He also served as executive director of the Buffalo Municipal
Housing Authority and executive secretary of the Erie County Water
Authority; and
WHEREAS, Later, the Water Authority Testing Headquarters in Lackawanna
was named for him; and
WHEREAS, In 1957, he the managed South Buffalo Post 721, American
Legion, baseball team to a championship in Cooperstown; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kane was a lifelong resident of South Buffalo and gradu-
ated from Hutchinson-Central High School; and
WHEREAS, His wife of 52 years, Patricia Doyle Kane, is deceased; and
WHEREAS, Survivors include two daughters, Mary Teresa and former South
Council Member Veronica Anne "Bonnie" Kane Lockwood; four sons, John
Kennedy, James Michael, Patrick Timothy and Donald Francis Jr.; a broth-
er, James B., retired administrative judge of the 8th Judicial District;
and 14 grandchildren, including Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks;
and
WHEREAS, Donald F. Kane leaves behind a legacy of service to his coun-
try that will long endure the passage of time and will remain as
comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Donald F. Kane, influential community leader and
honorable veteran of the U.S. Navy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Donald F. Kane.
