LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Elaine and Gerry Gross upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award
by the Young Israel of Plainview, New York
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elaine and
Gerry Gross upon this auspicious occasion of their designation as recip-
ients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Young Israel of
Plainview, Inc., to be celebrated at its 42nd Annual Testimonial Dinner
on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Jericho Jewish Center; and
WHEREAS, Elaine and Gerry Gross have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Elaine Gross holds two Master's degrees from Queens College
and recently retired after 44 years in education, 15 of which, serving
at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau; and
WHEREAS, Gerry Gross is a graduate of the New York Institute of Tech-
nology and currently serves as Facilities Manager at Jamaica Hospital;
and
WHEREAS, They have been members of the Young Israel of Plainview for
34 years, seemingly holding close to every position; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Elaine and Gerry Gross have been strongly active
at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau since 1980; Elaine served as Vice Presi-
dent of the PTA, ran 6th grade Shabbatons, and was an esteemed member of
the Board of Education; Gerry served as the Plainview Coordinator for
the Orthodox Little League for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, In their long association with the Young Israel of Plainview,
Elaine and Gerry Gross have had the pleasure of having hundreds of
guests over for Shabbos and have taken joy in the warmth and camaraderie
of their friends in the community; and
WHEREAS, Happily married for 43 years, Elaine and Gerry Gross are the
proud parents of three sons, David (Sarah), Benny (Amira), Joey
(Monique); and the loving grandparents of six grandchildren, Sammy,
Abby, Ellie, Yisroel Meir, Bayla, and Yehuda, all of whom feel privi-
leged be a part of their lives and rejoice in their achievement; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Elaine and Gerry Gross have displayed
throughout lives of service to the Plainview Jewish community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elaine and Gerry Gross upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition as recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award
by the Young Israel of Plainview, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Elaine and Gerry Gross.
