LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Sally Marsh and the members of
Sally's Hootenanny upon the occasion of their designation as new World
Record holders for the Most People Singing "Old MacDonald" at One Time
by the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
certain extraordinary individuals and organizations whose abounding
spirit and good humor serve to enhance the vitality of their communities
and inspire the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in accord with its long-stand-
ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
the members of Sally's Hootenanny upon the occasion of their designation
as new World Record holders for Most People Singing "Old MacDonald" at
One Time by the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS; and
WHEREAS, The new record for Most People Singing "Old MacDonald" at One
Time according to the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS, was set by the
members of Sally's Hootenanny on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Quak-
er Amphitheater in Allegany State Park, New York; and
WHEREAS, For over 42 celebrated years, Sally Marsh has held weekly
hootenannies during summers at the Quaker Amphitheater in Allegany State
Park; a former employee of the park, she has invited adults and children
of all ages to have fun singing along to classic American songs since
1971; and
WHEREAS, One of the standing highlights of Sally's Hootenanny is the
singing of "Old MacDonald," where anyone who wishes is allowed to sing
their own animal verse to the group; the music only ends when all those
wishing to sing have done so, often resulting in 50 or more people
taking their whimsical turn; and
WHEREAS, After one fantastic evening of many singers, the idea was
proposed of setting a world record for the song; with the co-sponsorship
of Allegany State Park, the group commenced the Sally's Hootenanny World
Record Attempt 2013; and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh personally led the planning and worked closely
with volunteers; she then contacted the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS
and ensured that every rule was followed so that the event would be a
tremendous success; and
WHEREAS, The members of Sally's Hootenanny followed a strict set of
guidelines from the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS; organizers regis-
tered and photographed every individual present for the event, vide-
otaped the entire attempt, and had officials fill out multiple pages of
paperwork, stating they witnessed the event; and
WHEREAS, Once counted, over 350 participants came together on August
17, 2013, to sing "Old MacDonald," successfully breaking the previous
record of 332 set in Italy, in 2009; and
WHEREAS, The following week, members of the group were overjoyed to
receive word from the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS of their placement
on the organization's official register; and
WHEREAS, Sally's Hootenanny's delightful contributions to the communi-
ty and auspicious new record merit the recognition and respectful trib-
ute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sally Marsh and the members of Sally's Hootenanny upon the
occasion of their designation as new World Record holders for Most
People Singing "Old MacDonald" at One Time by the GUINNESS BOOK OF WORLD
RECORDS; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sally Marsh, and to the Allegany State Park.
