LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Floyd H. Coulter upon the occasion
of celebrating his 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Floyd H. Coulter of Frewsburg, New York, upon the occasion of cele-
brating his 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter, affectionately known as "Dutch," was born
on December 22, 1913, in Onoville, New York, to George and Emmaline
Coulter; he was the third of six children, and attended grade school in
a one-room schoolhouse in Bone Run, New York; and
WHEREAS, Once he completed the 8th grade, Floyd H. Coulter began work-
ing on various farms, as well as the railroad where his duties included
unloading and loading railcars; and
WHEREAS, After 14 years of vigorous work, Floyd H. Coulter served his
country as a member of the United States Air Force, and working with the
Strategic Air Command installing communication towers; and
WHEREAS, During his time in the military, Floyd H. Coulter served in
Germany with the peace-keeping forces after World War II; it was here he
met and married the love of his life, Lieselotte Dammel Coulter; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter retired after 21 years of distinguished
service to the United States Air Force with the esteemed rank of Chief
Master Sergeant; he returned to the western part of the state, and
settled in Frewsburg, New York, where he built his home; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter worked full-time at Crescent-Tool Corpo-
ration in Jamestown, New York, as a machinist and maintenance electri-
cian, retiring at the age of 65; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter continued to work independently for the next
26 years performing electrical installation and repairs for local farm-
ers, friends, and family; he officially retired at the age of 91; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter and his wife, Lieselotte, together raised
two children, George and Barbara; they have been further blessed with
three grandchildren, Erik, Amber, and Adam; and five great-grandchil-
dren, Taren, Peyton, Olyvia, Hazen, and Aubree; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter also enjoys hunting, fishing, vegetable
gardening, and raising livestock; in his younger years he was a square
dance caller, and played both the accordion and harmonica; he appreci-
ates the company of animals and has owned many dogs and cats over the
course of his 100 years, including a horse named Bucky for his daughter
Barbara; and
WHEREAS, Floyd H. Coulter is a devoted family man who is extremely
trustworthy and committed to helping those in need; he enjoys telling
stories about his life with humor and zeal, and meets each day with
purpose and meaning; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Floyd H. Coulter upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Floyd H. Coulter.
