LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kenneth F. Governor, Department Comman-
der of the Sons of the American Legion upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by the Sullivan County American Legion on
March 16, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kenneth F.
Governor, Department Commander of the Sons of the American Legion upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Sullivan
County American Legion on Sunday, March 16, 2014, to be celebrated at
its annual dinner at the Eagle's Nest in Bloomingburg, New York; and
WHEREAS, Chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic
veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness, the American Legion
is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization, committed
to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communi-
ties, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national securi-
ty, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans;
and
WHEREAS, Raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Kenneth F. Governor of North
Greenbush, New York, is a retired United States Army Major with 30 years
of both active and reserve service; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished military career, Kenneth F.
Governor devoted himself to serving his country and providing a positive
role model for his soldiers; during his last tour, he ensured that the
National Guard units were logistically ready for deployment in the first
Gulf War; he concentrated on making sure every soldier and unit had the
essentials needed to sustain and protect themselves in combat; and
WHEREAS, His focus coupled with his skill, Kenneth F. Governor and his
team were cited for the best prepared units to arrive at the mobiliza-
tion and embarkation centers; and
WHEREAS, His tenacious attitude on service followed him into the
civilian world; Kenneth F. Governor's leadership, administrative, and
logistical talents were recognized in his business; professionally he
was responsible for negotiating office leases and space restructuring in
ever-increasing locations throughout the country, establishing and
managing a complicated international insurance program to cover the
growth of world-wide business operations of a publicly traded corpo-
ration, and supervising the expansion and construction of a New York
headquarters facility; and
WHEREAS, An active member of The American Legion, Kenneth F. Governor
is a life member of North Greenbush Memorial Post 1489 in Rensselaer
County; he also serves as a member of the Sons of the American Legion,
as well as a past Rensselaer County and Third District Commander; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth F. Governor has held numerous state and national
posts including chair of the Department of New York's Public Relations
and National Legislative Commission; furthermore, he represented The
American Legion before Congress, and held the position of Vice Chair of
the National Legislative Council; and
WHEREAS, In March of 2011, Kenneth F. Governor was the recipient of
the Legislative Council Member of the Year Award for his ability to
build close working relationships with members of Congress, and for his
communication skills with National Legislative Division staff and new
members of the council; and
WHEREAS, During the 2011 Department Convention, Kenneth F. Governor
was elected to a three-year term as Director of the New York American

Legion Press Association, and for the past three years, has served as
Department Public Relations chair; he was also responsible for coordi-
nating a well-known series of public relations workshops at several
Mid-Winter Conferences; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Sandra Gingeresky
Governor, and their five children, as well as their two granddaughters,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kenneth F. Governor, Department Commander of the Sons of the Amer-
ican Legion upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Sullivan County American Legion on March 16, 2014; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Department Commander Kenneth F. Governor, Sons of the Ameri-
can Legion.
