LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Silka Jacobson-Evans upon the
occasion of receiving the distinguished Girl Scout Silver Award, the
highest honor achieved by a Girl Scout Cadette

WHEREAS, Silka Jacobson-Evans, through her diligence and rigorous
efforts, will be honored with the Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette
Scouting's highest award and Girl Scouting's second highest achievement,
to be celebrated at a Young Women of Distinction event, hosted by Girl
Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc. in May of 2014; and
WHEREAS, Silka Jacobson-Evans is a member of Troop 40913; Silka, along
with three fellow Scouts, earned the Silver Award by spending a minimum
of 50 hours on a sustainable project which will impact the community for
many years; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people the
goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work-
ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and
encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
hundreds of thousands who have participated in Scouting programs which
have made Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, Silka Jacobson-Evans has completed many activities in addi-
tion to the notable Silver Award community service project which she
successfully planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, Silka Jacobson-Evans' project called Koala Tree Run, benefit-
ted Carder Koala Run Playground; Silka and her troop researched trees
and bushes to plant at the playground; the trees had to fit certain
safety points and be able to thrive in their location; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award is earned over a two-year period; it is
tangible evidence of Silka Jacobson-Evans' high character and commit-
ment, and is a harbinger of her future service to her community, New
York State and our Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Silka Jacobson-Evans upon the occasion of receiving the
distinguished Girl Scout Silver Award, recognizing her achievement in
earning this illustrious honor and wishing her success, health and
happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Silka Jacobson-Evans.
