LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Fallsburg Pop Warner "Midget
Comets" Midget cheerleading team upon the occasion of their second place
finish at the 2013 National Cheer and Dance Championships
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Fallsburg Pop Warner "Midget Comets" Midget cheerleading team upon the
occasion of their second place finish at the 2013 National Cheer and
Dance Championships, held December 7-14, 2013, at the ESPN Wide World of
Sports Complex in the Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, The Midget Comets finished second out of seven teams contend-
ing in the Midget, Small, PW1 Division, a spectacular conclusion to this
winning team's first ever national competition, and a fitting capstone
to their outstanding season; and
WHEREAS, The Midget Comets were the first Fallsburg Pop Warner squad
to advance to the Nationals since the program began 10 years ago; they
qualified for the Nationals by taking first place in the State competi-
tion, and finishing second out of 12 teams at the Eastern Regional
Finals; and
WHEREAS, Comprised of 12 girls, ages 11-15, the Fallsburg Pop Warner
Midget cheerleading team members come from the Monticello, Liberty,
Tri-Valley, Ellenville, and Fallsburg school districts; during their
regular season, they cheer at Fallsburg Pop Warner football home and
away games, performing crowd-pleasing and engaging cheerleading routines
that consist of tumbling, dance, cheer, and stunting; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Head Coach Keri Whitehead and Assistant Coach
Kierra Miller, skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their
ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated and hardworking team members were loyally and
enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the community at
large, who eagerly raised the needed funds to ensure that there were no
out-of-pocket costs for the cheerleaders; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and the Fallsburg Pop Warner Midget cheerleading team
has clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of its community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Fallsburg Pop Warner "Midget Comets" Midget cheerlead-
ing team; its members: Emily Bassett, Makaela Bryden, Jiovanna Gonzalez,
Mercedes Gonzalez, Mellia Kimble, Cheyenne Lapolt, Kimberley Mahler,
Krista Novello, Myra Olden King, Tiara Payton, Cassandra Reyes, and
Olivia Steigler; Head Coach Keri Whitehead, and Assistant Coach Kierra
Miller on their outstanding season and overall team record; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Fallsburg Pop Warner "Midget Comets" Midget cheerleading
team and to the aforementioned staff.
