SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing the formal establishment of the New York
State Senate Liberty Award, to be bestowed upon individuals chosen by
their Senator to be worthy of such acknowledgement

WHEREAS, It is the sense of the Legislature to recognize and celebrate
individuals and events of significance which add vitality, sensitivity,
understanding and inspiration to the diversity and value of all the
people of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of human life are cherished values,
worthy of safeguarding; the New York State Senate is justly proud to
honor outstanding individuals who would serve to protect it; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of the Legislature to recognize
the formal establishment of the New York State Senate Liberty Award, to
be bestowed upon individuals chosen by their Senator to be worthy of
such acknowledgement; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal, one of the highest
civilian honors that a New Yorker can receive, is awarded to those who
have acted in an exceptional, heroic and humanitarian way toward fellow
New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Individuals of every age and economic, ethnic and religious
background have made significant contributions that are reflected in the
social, cultural, educational and economic diversity of this great
state; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of the Legislature to commend those
remarkable individuals who serve wholeheartedly and selflessly, who
unwaveringly put others before themselves, who unflinchingly face hard-
ships and emerge better people and who quietly but steadfastly commit to
their communities and their neighbors; and
WHEREAS, New York State has been, and continues to be, a melting pot -
a home to all those who are born and raised here or who, through random
circumstances, come to our great Empire State and make it their home;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of the Legislature that those who enhance the
quality of life in their community and have shown a long and sustained
commitment to the maintenance of high standards, certainly have earned
the respect and applause of all the citizens of the great State of New
York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the New York State Senate pause in its deliberations to
officially recognize the formal establishment of the New York State
Senate Liberty Award, to be bestowed upon individuals chosen by their
Senator to be worthy of such acknowledgement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Francis W. Patience, Secretary of the Senate.
