LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 85th Anniversary of the Greater
Springfield Community Church of Queens, New York

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
85th Anniversary of the Greater Springfield Community Church of Queens,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1929, Greater Springfield Community Church
stands as a beacon of light in the borough of Queens, New York; its
leadership provides a holistic approach to attaining full spirituality
through the development of faith, civic consciousness and strong moral
character; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Philip Craig was elected Pastor and Administrator of
the Greater Springfield Community Church on October 30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Reverend Philip Craig, Great-
er Springfield Community Church saw a large increase in membership, and
a major physical renovation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, in 2012, new ministries were birthed, new minis-
ters ordained, and the infrastructure of new leadership began to take
form; and
WHEREAS, After school programs, motivational workshops, and support of
onsite community organizations resulted in the Unity in the Community
movement throughout New York City, as well as tremendous growth of the
Greater Springfield Community Church; and
WHEREAS, Greater Springfield Community Church stands on the threshold
of tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while
retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Greater Springfield Community
Church of Queens, New York, fully confident that this commemoration
reflects the belief in those values which enhance the dignity and
purpose of life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Philip Craig, Greater Springfield Community Church,
Queens, New York.
