LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Janice Judge, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of her community, on October 5, 2013

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Janice Judge on Saturday, October 5, 2013,
noting the significance of her purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Janice Judge was a beloved educator, wife, mother, grandmoth-
er, and godmother with a passion for music and a flair for life, who
enhanced the lives of all she touched; and
WHEREAS, Janice Judge was born in Statesville, North Carolina, on May
20, 1945,to Elliott and Revellius (Sue) Caldwell; she met her husband,
Harry Judge, in their church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when she was
15 and he 16; the couple married in 1964; and
WHEREAS, She earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from
Cheyney State Teacher's College in Pennsylvania, and a master's degree
in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia; and
WHEREAS, Janice Judge moved to Binghamton, New York, with her husband
when he was offered a position at IBM, and she began her education
career, teaching first at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, then in
the Union-Endicott school district; and
WHEREAS, Janice Judge stopped teaching to start a family; a full-time
homemaker, she was devoted to meeting the needs of her three children,
Pamela, Connie, and Jonathan; and
WHEREAS, Janice Judge distinguished herself in her profession and by
her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
her community; and
WHEREAS, After raising her children, she returned to the workforce
full-time as an elementary music teacher at Horace Mann Elementary
School in Binghamton, where she taught for decades, touching the hearts
of many with her love for her students, teaching, and music; and
WHEREAS, Janice Judge's commitment to excellence, and her spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, She was a faithful member, praise leader and Music Director
at Faith Evangelistic Church in Johnson City, and was well-known
throughout the Southern Tier for playing the piano and conducting the
Binghamton Community Gospel Choir and Angelic Voices of Praise; in addi-
tion, she was very involved with the Women's Aglow Women's Ministry,
leading worship at Women's Conferences and sharing her love of music at
local churches; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her father, Elliott, and her children, Jona-
than and Pamela, Janice Judge is survived by her husband, Harry; mother,
Revellius Caldwell; daughter, Constance (Brian) Hughes; and grandchil-
dren, Lateisha (Benson) Judge-Ulrich, Caleb Walker, Alondra Hughes,
Xavian Hughes, and Joshua Walford; siblings, JoAnne Williams, Constance
(Johnny) Prioleau, Dolores (Rickie) Carroll, David (Elaine) Caldwell,
and Charles (Jackie) Caldwell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, aunts and godchildren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Janice Judge leaves behind
a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a
comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Janice Judge, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Janice Judge.
