LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Phi Beta
Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
100th Anniversary of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., to be celebrated
at its Centennial Anniversary Regional Conference on Thursday, March 27,
2014, at the Brooklyn Marriott; and
WHEREAS, The success of Phi Beta Sigma is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and always has been, char-
acterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
fraternity and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma was founded by three collegiate men, A. Lang-
ston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse and Charles I. Brown on January 9, 1914 on
the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C.; this year marks the
Centennial Anniversary of living its motto of Culture for Service and
Service to Humanity; and
WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma, with its rich history, has made a significant
impact in communities around the country as well as in Africa, Korea and
the Caribbean; its national focus areas are Education, Social Action and
Bigger and Better Business; and
WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma continues to uphold its century old ideals of
Brotherhood, Scholarship and Service; its members are committed to being
leaders in their communities to ensure that this illustrious fraternal
organization continues to move forward and remain a voice for gener-
ations to come; and
WHEREAS, In light of its commitment, dedication, and successful
efforts, it is the custom of this Legislative Body to extend its highest
commendation to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to honor and praise
the members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., past and present, who
have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of
life for the community it serves; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
