LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Shen Yun Performing Arts upon the
occasion of presenting 5000 years of Chinese culture at Proctor's Thea-
tre on April 27, 2014
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the importance of the perform-
ing arts, which act to inspire, enlighten, and unify people from all
cultural backgrounds through the transcendent power of human expression;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Shen Yun Performing Arts upon the occasion of presenting 5000 years of
Chinese culture at Proctor's Theatre, in Schenectady, New York, on
Sunday, April 27, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world's premier classical
Chinese dance and music company; it seeks to revive traditional Chinese
culture while providing a beautiful and inspiring experience for its
audiences; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts' repertoire draws on five millennia
of Chinese history, diverse ethnic traditions, classic legends and
universal themes to create a visually stunning experience of pure gran-
deur and beauty; with a live orchestra that combines Western and Chinese
instruments, the superlative company presents classical Chinese dance in
its purest form; and
WHEREAS, The artists of Shen Yun Performing Arts take to heart the
ancient Chinese belief that to create true art, there must be inner
beauty and purity; to that end they immerse themselves in meditation and
study of the classics, and adopt the virtues of the ancients into their
daily lives, thereby embodying for their audiences the depth and rich-
ness of Chinese culture; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in 2006 by a group
of Chinese artistic visionaries in New York City; since then it has
grown from one company into four, each including approximately 90 danc-
ers, musicians, singers, and production crew, touring and presenting the
troupe's unique artistry all over the world; and
WHEREAS, The artists of Shen Yun Performing Arts flourish in the
artistic freedom of the West, enabling it to bring ancient traditions
back to life on stage, independent from censorship; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those organiza-
tions and events which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity within New York State, strengthen the fabric of our
communities; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to appreciate Shen Yun
Performing Arts, to celebrate the arts, and to celebrate and give thanks
to our American freedom, the only atmosphere in which artists can truly
create and in which art is truly the expression of the soul; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Shen Yun Performing Arts upon the occasion of presenting 5000
years of Chinese culture at Proctor's Theatre on April 27, 2014; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shen Yun Performing Arts.
