LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. John F. Walter upon his
selection as an inductee into the Inaugural SUNY Sullivan Generals
Athletics Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Dr.
John F. Walter upon his selection as an inductee into the Inaugural SUNY
Sullivan Generals Athletics Hall of Fame to be celebrated at a reception
with President Karin Hilgersom, on Friday, March 14, 2014, in the Harold
L. Gold Founders Hall Lobby of SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake, New
York; and
WHEREAS, During this year's NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball National Cham-
pionship Tournament, SUNY Sullivan will be opening the SUNY Sullivan
Generals Athletics Hall of Fame; with its 50th Anniversary as a fitting
platform, the college will induct its first class representing athletes
and boosters from the college's five decades; the Hall of Fame will be
housed in the College's Paul Gerry Fieldhouse; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John F. Walter held the illustrious position of College
President of SUNY Sullivan County Community College for 10 years, and he
has been an avid supporter of Sullivan Athletics; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of the advancement of the Athletic Program
to national prominence, Dr. John F. Walter was the sitting president
during the school's first Men's Basketball National Championship in
1992; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man's unique vision of using athletics as a
vehicle to deliver his college's mission to the local community has been
a resounding success; and
WHEREAS, SUNY Sullivan's strong athletic program is a point of pride
at the college and reflects its commitment to sportsmanship, academics,
and the positive growth of student athletes in its community; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Dr. John F. Walter has clearly made a contribution
to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of this school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. John F. Walter upon his selection as an inductee into
the Inaugural SUNY Sullivan Generals Athletics Hall of Fame; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. John F. Walter.
