LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Develop-
ment Corporation upon the occasion of hosting its Sunset Swing XIV:
Brooklyn Waterfront Works!
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation upon the occasion
of hosting its Sunset Swing XIV: Brooklyn Waterfront Works!, to be held
at The Bell House on Wednesday, May 14, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation (SBIDC)
provides advocacy and services to help businesses in the Sunset Park,
Red Hook, and Gowanus neighborhoods grow and create employment opportu-
nities for local residents; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1978, SBIDC has been a driving force
in the improvement of the Southwest Brooklyn economy by delivering a
wide range of business services to local firms and acting as an advocate
for business interests; and
WHEREAS, In addition, SBIDC provides local residents with employment
services and advocates for local improvements that improve the quality
of life for residents and businesses alike; and
WHEREAS, At this year's Sunset Swing XIV: Brooklyn Waterfront Works!,
SBIDC will pay tribute to an outstanding group of honorees committed to
helping this dynamic organization realize its worthy mission: Andrew
Kimball, CEO of Industry City Associates, a six million square foot
facility in Sunset Park; long-time Sunset Park business and employer,
Superflex, which manufactures flexible hose and electrical conduit, and
is run by two generations of the Elbaz family; and David Bolotsky and
Uncommon Goods, which, in addition to offering creatively-designed, high
quality merchandise, has a larger mission of creating and sustaining a
positive workplace environment and working with environmentally consci-
entious manufacturers; and
WHEREAS, The Frank C. Spinner Jr. Award for Public Service will be
awarded to New York City Councilmember Carlos Menchaca in recognition of
his extraordinary leadership during and after Hurricane Sandy; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
recognize SBIDC for its unwavering commitment to the citizens of South-
west Brooklyn, providing an uncompromising standard of excellence in the
delivery of unmatched community service; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation upon the
occasion of hosting its Sunset Swing XIV: Brooklyn Waterfront Works!, on
May 14, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation.
