LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Juan E. Vega Jr., distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body mourns the death of Juan E.
Vega Jr., distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and
WHEREAS, Juan Enrique Vega Jr. of Schenectady, New York, died on
Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, He was born and raised in New York City, arriving in Schenec-
tady in 1977, and quickly making his presence felt in his community; and
WHEREAS, Juan E. Vega Jr. distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Excelsior
College, and was employed for many years as a proofreader at the New
York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission, where he mentored
others, giving them the benefit of his longevity and insight; and
WHEREAS, Juan E. Vega Jr.'s commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Genuinely concerned about educational opportunities for young
people, Juan E. Vega Jr. was a founding member of the New York Latino
Greater Capital Region Dollars For Scholars Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Juan E. Vega Jr. was a beautiful light in the lives of all
those with whom he came into contact; he enjoyed playing for the Colonie
Senior Basketball League on the Albany RV team and, as a self-taught
piano and conga player, had a true passion for music; and
WHEREAS, Juan E. Vega Jr.'s highest priority and joy was his family;
he delighted in spending time with those he loved and helping others;
and
WHEREAS, Juan E. Vega Jr. is survived by his father, Juan Enrique Vega
Sr.; his siblings, sister, Maritza, and brother, Angel; his children,
Candida and Gabriel; a niece and a nephew, Dulcinea and Benjamin; and
his loving companion, Ivette Hall; as well as his many beautiful grand-
children; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Juan E. Vega Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Juan E. Vega Jr., distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Juan E. Vega Jr.
