LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gordan W. Brown posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Rensselaer
County Honor-A-Veteran Committee on April 14, 2014
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gordan W. Brown posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Rensselaer County Honor-A-Veteran Committee
on April 14, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 12, 1937, in Lorraine, New York, Gordan W. Brown
was the son of the late Kellogg Brown and Helen Ansted Brown; he was
also the brother of Ronald, Betty and the late Gerald; and
WHEREAS, Gordan W. Brown attended Adams Center High School and gradu-
ated in 1954, before joining the United States Air Force on July 12,
1954, and serving in Korea; and
WHEREAS, He was honorably discharged in 1958, after which time Gordan
W. Brown attended the State University of New York Cortland and gradu-
ated in 1962; and
WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Gordan W. Brown began his illustrious
career in Lansingburgh, New York as a 6th grade teacher; in 1973, he
rose to become the Principal of Turnpike Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, From 1985 through 1990, Gordan W. Brown was appointed to the
National Elementary Association of Principals; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his love to the field of education, Gordan W.
Brown was active throughout his community as a member of the Lansing-
burgh Historical Society, and Kiwanis Club; he also officiated track
meets, was a volunteer for the Red Cross, and went to New York City to
help following the tragic events of September 11, 2001; and
WHEREAS, Together, Gordan W. Brown and his wife of 48 years, Suzann,
had two children, Loree, and Geoffrey (Melissa); as well as grandchil-
dren and great-grandchildren, Christie, Jensen, and Maddon; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gordan W. Brown posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by the Rensselaer County Honor-A-Veteran Commit-
tee on April 14, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Gordan W. Brown.
