LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Mount Sinai High School Varsity
Cheerleading Team upon the occasion of winning the Universal Cheerlead-
ers Association's 2014 National Championship

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor the Mount Sinai High
School Varsity Cheerleading Team upon the occasion of winning the
Universal Cheerleaders Association's National Championship in the large
varsity division two in Orlando, Florida, on February 12-13, 2014; and
WHEREAS, The Mount Sinai Varsity Cheerleading Team took first place
against some of the best teams in the country and won the first cheer-
leading national title in school history; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Samantha Melella, a skilled and inspira-
tional tutor, respected for her ability to develop potential into excel-
lence; and
WHEREAS, Loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large, the Mount Sinai Varsity Cheerleading
Team have proven themselves to be an unbeatable combination of athletic
and academic talents, reflecting favorably on their community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people who represent their community with pride and determination while
participating in competitive sports are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Mount Sinai High School Varsity Cheerleading Team; its
members: Brittney Ankelman, Kristen Friia, Chloe Shields, Stephaney
Ankelman, Victoria Harman, Alexa Signorile, Tina Batinovic, Samantha
Kollmer, Emily Spagnolo, Taylor Cauchi-Gerace, Arden LoRe, Amanda Spole-
ti, Gabriela Custodio, Jourdan Masullo, Catherine Tawfik, Alexa Diamond,
Kaylee Orlando, Casey Wesolowski, Samantha Feeney, Amanda Rose, Cassidy
Wesolowski, Charlotte Fiordalisi, Danielle Runfola, and Cassandra
Wilson; and Coach Samantha Melella upon the occasion of winning the
National Championship in the Universal Cheerleaders Association's large
varsity division two; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mount Sinai High School Varsity Cheerleading Team, and to
Coach Samantha Melella.
