LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Minerva Solla for almost 30 years of
service to 1199 SEIU
WHEREAS, A great state is only as great as those individuals that
perform exemplary service on behalf of their communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend Minerva
Solla upon the occasion of her retirement from 1199 SEIU; and
WHEREAS, Since the late 1960s when Minerva Solla became an organizer
for Young Lords in New York City, she has remained committed to helping
working people discover their own power in struggles for justice, digni-
ty and human rights; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Minerva Solla, then a staff member at Roosevelt
Hospital, helped her co-workers organize and win union representation
through 1199 SEIU;
WHEREAS, Minerva Solla's impressive energy, skill and passion have led
her to emerge as a union delegate, strike captain, and organizer, even-
tually rising to become 1199 SEIU's Vice President and Lead Organizer;
and
WHEREAS, Minerva Solla's countless victories have helped thousands of
workers organize include those at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Edwin
Gould Academy, Good Samaritan Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend those individ-
uals for the edification and emulation of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Minerva Solla for almost 30 years of service to 1199 SEIU; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Minerva Solla.
