LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mark and Jane Levine upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award
by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mark
and Jane Levine upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the
Center's 14th Annual Pillars of the Community Awards Brunch to be held
on Sunday, April 6, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Mark and Jane Levine are lifelong Capital District residents
and the owners of Levine Memorial Chapel; for many years they have
worked side by side, operating this funeral service founded by Mark
Levine's father, Robert M. Levine; and
WHEREAS, Leaders in their industry, this esteemed couple has been
invited to serve on the Independent Jewish Funeral Directors Associ-
ation's Kavod steering committee and are members of the Capital
District, New York State and National Funeral Directors associations;
and
WHEREAS, Mark and Jane Levine are members of multiple Jewish congre-
gations, including Congregation Beth Emeth, where Mark Levine is a
member of its Brotherhood, and Jane Levine a member of its Sisterhood;
and
WHEREAS, The Levines are devoted to giving back to their community
through volunteerism; they have served as volunteers at Ronald McDonald
House Charities and supported countless walkathons and benefits for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; Mark Levine is a member and past presi-
dent of the Independent Benevolent Society in Albany, and Jane Levine is
a lifelong member of the Hadassah of the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Their numerous honors for their charitable works include the
Anshei Chesed Award from Hadassah of the Capital District and the
Friendship Circle's Extraordinary Friends and Heroes Award; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their professional and commu-
nity service, a period of constructive involvement, Mark and Jane Levine
have stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and have earned
the respect and admiration of their colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by a couple
for the benefit of others which Mark and Jane Levine have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mark and Jane Levine upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mark and Jane Levine.
