LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Charles Clayton Pratt Jr., posthumously,
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal,
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Charles Clay-
ton Pratt Jr., posthumously, upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an indi-
vidual by the New York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was created in 2000,
and is awarded to individuals who have merited special commendation for
exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of their fellow New
Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Charles Clayton Pratt Jr. of Troy, New York, was born Febru-
ary 17, 1933, to Charles Clayton Pratt Sr. and Helen Ester (Coonradt)
Pratt; he attended Troy public schools before enlisting with the United
States Air Force in August 1955; and
WHEREAS, Charles Clayton Pratt Jr. served his country with honor and
distinction, earning the Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Good
Conduct Medal; and
WHEREAS, Upon separating from his service in February 1972, Charles
Clayton Pratt Jr. worked at the Watervliet Arsenal, from which he even-
tually retired; and
WHEREAS, Charles Clayton Pratt Jr. was devoted to his family; he was
married to the former Patricia Harriet Johnston, and was the proud
father of Denise, Lori, Charles, Robin, David, Carol and Kelly; and
WHEREAS, Charles Clayton Pratt Jr., a lifetime member of Veterans of
Lansingburgh, continually exhibited his patriotism both at home and
abroad; and
WHEREAS, He died May 27, 2012, and was buried at Saratoga National
Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Charles Clayton Pratt Jr. who devoted
their lives to improving the quality of life for others, are deserving
of the highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charles Clayton Pratt Jr., posthumously, upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Charles Clayton Pratt Jr.
