LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Brian J. Cassidy upon the occasion of
his designation as Deputy Grand Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 23, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens of the State of New York who
devote their lifework and civic endeavor in service to their community,
adding to the character and quality of life for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Brian J. Cassidy upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy Grand
Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday,
March 23, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Brian J. Cassidy is the oldest of three children born to
Bernard and Theresa Garvey Cassidy; he was born and raised in Sunset
Park where he attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School; he
is an alumnus of Xaverian High School and attended Baruch College where
he studied Accounting; and
WHEREAS, Upon his graduation from high school, Brian J. Cassidy relo-
cated with his parents to Breezy Point where he resided for 10 years
until his return to Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Brian J. Cassidy realized his dream and began his
illustrious career in law enforcement; he entered the New York State
Court Officer Academy and was then assigned to Brooklyn Criminal Court;
and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the Applicant Processing Unit in 2001, Brian J.
Cassidy was subsequently promoted to the rank of Sergeant; in 2007, he
left the New York State Court System to become a Police Officer with the
Port Authority Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Brian J. Cassidy has remained true to
his Irish-Catholic heritage through his involvement in numerous frater-
nal organizations; he joined the Breezy Point Catholic Club where he was
a member of the Club's Pipes and Drums and served as business manager;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, as a New York State Court Officer, Brian J.
Cassidy was an active member of the NYS Courts Emerald Society where he
served both as a delegate and executive board member; and
WHEREAS, Brian J. Cassidy is currently a member of the Port Authority
Police Department Pipes and Drums where he plays the bass drum; he is
also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians-Division 12, the
Knights of Columbus-Dongan Council, and volunteers as a basketball and
baseball coach with St. Ephrem's Youth Sports Program; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Beth (Reilly) Cassi-
dy, and their son, Ryan, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Brian J. Cassidy is a fitting choice for Deputy Grand Marshal
of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade, for he embodies the spirit
and the cherished ideals and values of this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities
and generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage
of the Irish people throughout these United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and highlights the many
contributions and historical accomplishments of the Irish community in
this diverse land; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brian J. Cassidy upon the occasion of his designation as Deputy
Grand Marshal of the Annual Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade on March
23, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brian J. Cassidy.
