LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Department of New York, American
Gold Star Mothers, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting the 78th Annual
Convention on April 24-27, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions, and their volunteers, that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Department of New York, American Gold Star Mothers upon the occasion
of hosting the 78th Annual Convention to be held April 24-27, 2014, at
the Courtyard Hotel by Marriott, Saratoga Springs, New York; and
WHEREAS, The membership of American Gold Star Mothers is composed of
American Mothers who have lost a son or daughter during World War I,
World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, Beirut, Grenada,
Panama, the Persian Gulf, Somalia, Bosnia or while in service to our
country; and
WHEREAS, The organization was founded nationally after World War I by
Mrs. Grace Darling Seibold, Washington, D.C., with a group of mothers,
for the purpose of perpetuating the ideals of Americanism for which
their children had so gallantly fought and died; and
WHEREAS, American Gold Star Mothers is a federally chartered organiza-
tion and is a member of the National Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service
Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Department of New York, American Gold Star
Mothers volunteer many hours of work and personal service in hospitals
for the veterans as well as to the veteran and his or her family in
their community; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Department of New York, American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.
upon the occasion of hosting the 78th Annual Convention on April 24-27,
2014, in Saratoga Springs, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary Ellen Jackowski, President, Department of New York,
American Gold Star Mothers, inc.
