LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Mulligan Farm of Avon, New
York, upon the occasion of being named 2014 Livingston County Farm of
the Year by the Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of local businesses
and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Mulligan Farm of Avon, New York, upon the occasion of being
named 2014 Livingston County Farm of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce
and Farm Bureau, to be celebrated at a ceremony on Friday March 21,
2014, at the River Hotel in Mount Morris, New York; and
WHEREAS, New York State and the entire United States is dependent on
our agricultural industry for a variety of food products; and
WHEREAS, As a part of the agricultural industry, the Mulligan Farm and
its owners Jeff Mulligan and his wife, Lesa, along with brother, Philip,
and sister, Clara Mulligan, stand as a symbol of the foundation upon
which our distinct American heritage is built; and
WHEREAS, The history of the Mulligan Farm dates back to 1840 when it
was founded by Aaron Barber Jr.; in 1920, his son, Aaron Barber III sold
the property to Edward and Nancy Mulligan, and it has been passed down
to their grandchildren in the present day; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Mulligan Farm has grown from a small
holding of 30 cows in the beginning, to a modern dairy facility with
1,200 adult Holsteins and 1,150 young stock today; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, this esteemed farm and homestead were named to the
National Register of Historic Places; furthermore, development rights to
a significant number of acres have been sold to the State of New York in
order to preserve the land for agricultural use for all of posterity;
and
WHEREAS, Through its diligence and expertise, the Mulligan family has
brought pride and recognition to itself, its local community, and to our
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, The efforts of our farmers should be commended as they
continue their hard work of raising animals and cultivating the land,
while facing the many challenges of nature in order to provide our food;
and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when local
businesses of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Mulligan Farm of Avon, New York, upon the occasion of
being named 2014 Livingston County Farm of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mulligan Farm, Avon, New York.
