LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Robert L. Schultze upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2014 Professional of the Year
Award by the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Schultze has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Robert L.
Schultze upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014
Professional of the Year Award by the Northeastern Association of the
Blind at Albany, to be celebrated at a ceremony held on Saturday, April
12, 2014, at the Franklin Plaza Ballroom in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1908, the Northeastern Association of the Blind at
Albany (NABA) has provided comprehensive services and programs to resi-
dents of the greater Capital Region who are blind or visually impaired;
they have helped individuals of all ages across 14 counties adapt to
vision loss, maximize remaining vision, achieve their goals, and expand
their independence; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Schultze is the Ophthalmology Residence Program
Director at Albany Medical Center, and is the Director of Cornea, Cata-
ract, and Refractive Surgery at the Lions Eye Institute; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed physician is recognized as a leading authority
on cornea and refractive surgery; his work has been instrumental in the
development of DSAEK, a new technique in partial thickness corneal tran-
splantation and was the first surgeon in the northeast to perform such a
procedure; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Schultze's experiences in refractive and cata-
ract surgery have made him an area leader in advanced intraocular lens
surgery; he has participated in several national multi-center trials and
lectured internationally in Panama, Italy, Greece, China and India; and
WHEREAS, For his pioneering work in helping those with vision prob-
lems, Dr. Robert L. Schultze has earned the "Best of Show" award from
the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as a "First Place" from
the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, among numerous
other honors; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert L. Schultze has served admirably on the NABA Board
of Directors, and is active on the American Academy of Ophthalmology's
Committee on Eye Banks; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Robert L. Schultze has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Robert L. Schultze has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Robert L. Schultze upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2014 Professional of the Year Award by the Northeastern
Association of the Blind at Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Robert L. Schultze.
