LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 41st Anniversary of Evangelical
Crusade of Fishers of Men

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to celebrate the
milestones of those enduring places of worship within the State of New
York which serve the spiritual needs of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 41st Anniversary of Evangelical Crusade of Fishers of Men, to
be celebrated in May 2014; and
WHEREAS, A visionary, a leader, a pioneer are just a few words to
describe Pastor Philius Honorat Nicolas, founder and head pastor of
Evangelical Crusade of Fishers of Men (ECFM); this particular ministry
which started on May 20, 1973, at a daycare center on Bedford Avenue in
Brooklyn, has now manifested to one of the largest Haitian churches in
the Haitian community, with almost 2,000 active members; and
WHEREAS, Born in Petionville, Haiti, Pastor Nicolas married his wife
Helen when he was 25 yeas old; in 1955, he was determined that in 1957,
he was going to start working in the ministry; and
WHEREAS, Afterwards, Pastor Nicolas moved to the United States in
1965, and later, his wife and five kids came in 1968; starting in the
ministry part-time, Pastor Nicolas worked various jobs from a factory
worker to an X-Ray technician; and
WHEREAS, Despite his various jobs, Pastor Nicolas's primary focus was
the ministry; after ECFM's humble beginnings on Bedford Avenue, in 1978,
the Church moved to New York Avenue and then to its present location 557
East 31st Street, Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Establishing his home church, Pastor Nicolas has preached
throughout the United States and overseas; in addition, to spreading the
Gospel in various countries, he has ECFM congregations in other coun-
tries, as well as in Arizona and on Roosevelt, Long Island; also in his
native Haiti, he has 12 congregations and various schools; and
WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Helen, with him throughout have been
their children, Samuel, Kelly, Ketsia, Harold and Philip, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, ECFM stands on the threshold of tomorrow, prepared to meet
the challenges of the coming decades while retaining that spiritual
resolve which characterizes its past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 41st Anniversary of Evangelical Crusade of Fishers of
Men; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Pastor Philius Honorat Nicolas of Evangelical Crusade of
Fishers of Men.
