LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Melanie Schnoll Begun upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the Rotary Club of Verra-
zano at its 36th Annual Dinner Dance on May 2, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities of New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those who distin-
guish themselves in their profession and in service to their community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Melanie Schnoll Begun upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Rotary Club of Verrazano at its 36th Annual Dinner
Dance on Friday, May 2, 2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant in Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is dedicated to the development of
fellowship and understanding among business and professional leaders,
the promotion of community-betterment endeavors and of high standards in
business and professional practices, and the advancement of interna-
tional understanding, goodwill and peace; and
WHEREAS, Each year at its Annual Dinner Dance the Rotary Club of
Verrazano proudly honors individuals who exemplify those principles;
Melanie Schnoll Begun truly merits such recognition; and
WHEREAS, Melanie Schnoll Begun, a resident of New York City, holds a
Bachelor's degree in Literature and Rhetoric from Binghamton University,
as well as a Juris Doctorate from Quinnipiac University School of Law;
and
WHEREAS, As Managing Director, Melanie Schnoll Begun leads Morgan
Stanley's Private Wealth Management by developing areas of focus, engag-
ing multiple generations in the foundation's governance, programming and
evaluation, as well as designing customized domestic and international
grant-making portfolios, and facilitating corporate and nonprofit meet-
ings, giving circles and retreats; and
WHEREAS, A true leader, Melanie Schnoll Begun serves as the Board's
President, was instrumental in the 2012 launch of Foundation Management
Services, and publishes quarterly and annual journals for clients and
the industry; she is also a frequent speaker at both national and
regional conferences; and
WHEREAS, An insightful and tireless advocate, Melanie Schnoll Begun is
the current nominating chair and former Board President of the New York
City chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the
co-chair and head of grant-making of Inwood Charities, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Melanie Schnoll Begun serves on the advisory
boards of the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center, Quinnipiac Law School, and
Grameen America; she is on the founding council of TAMID, a progressive
synagogue in downtown Manhattan, and was the Treasurer of the Partner-
ship for Philanthropic Planning; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband and two sons, all
of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Melanie Schnoll Begun has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Melanie Schnoll Begun upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Rotary Club of Verrazano at its 36th Annual
Dinner Dance on May 2, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Melanie Schnoll Begun.
