LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Jose Cordero upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the
Year Award by the American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facil-
ity, Inc.

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Jose Cordero has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Jose Cordero
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Victor V.
Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by the American Legion Kings
County Youth Recreational Facility, Inc.; his contributions to the
community will be celebrated at the organization's 20th Annual Baseball
Fundraiser on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant, Brooklyn,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facility,
Inc. provides and maintains baseball fields for use by neighborhood
youth organizations and schools in Brooklyn, New York, allowing thou-
sands of children to play baseball in a clean and safe environment at no
cost to them or their families; and
WHEREAS, Jose Cordero is a firefighter with FDNY Engine 257 in Canar-
sie, Brooklyn, and the co-owner of Bad Ass Academy in Bay Ridge, Brook-
lyn, the first functional fitness and training facility of its kind in
the borough; and
WHEREAS, A firefighter for seven years, Jose Cordero's actions exem-
plify the belief that courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the
judgment that something else is more important than fear; and
WHEREAS, This heroic and humble man is an inspiration to everyone with
whom he comes into contact; and
WHEREAS, Jose Cordero's commitment to the well-being of his community
goes beyond his role as a protector against the ravages of fire; he is
driven by his genuine interest in fostering the health of those around
him to teach and train others in the way of fitness; and
WHEREAS, Through the Bad Ass Academy, Jose Cordero changes people's
lives by helping them find the courage to pursue their goals; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Jose Cordero has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Jose Cordero has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jose Cordero upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by the Ameri-
can Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facility, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jose Cordero.
