LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Cesar Sosa, Immediate Past President of
the North Shore Kiwanis Club, at the Club's 46th Annual Charter Night on
May 15, 2014
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cesar Sosa,
Immediate Past President of the North Shore Kiwanis Club, at the Club's
46th Annual Charter Night to be held at the Swan Club in Roslyn, New
York, on Thursday, May 15, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Cesar Sosa is the first Latino member and past president of
the North Shore Kiwanis Club; born in the Dominican Republic on December
7, 1960, he and his family came to the United States when Cesar was 10
years old; and
WHEREAS, They lived in the Washington Heights section of New York City
where Cesar Sosa attended George Washington High School, and then Mercy
College; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as a licensed Alcohol and Substance Abuse
Counselor, Cesar Sosa has been treating both juvenile and adult
substance abusers for over 25 years in various treatment modalities
including residential, outpatient and prison based settings; and
WHEREAS, Cesar Sosa is also licensed to treat problem gamblers;
currently, he is the Senior Director of a 57 bed not for profit facility
in Brooklyn, New York; he also holds a part time teaching position and
is a certified trainer; and
WHEREAS, While living in Greenvale, New York, Cesar Sosa joined the
North Shore Kiwanis Club in November of 2007; and
WHEREAS, An avid cyclist, camper, technology and gadgets person, Cesar
Sosa is the proud father of two children, Crystal and Isaiah, both of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Cesar Sosa became a Kiwanian due to his desire to provide
service to others in his community; in the seven years he has been a
member, he has provided support with the Mini-Mart, Youth Awards, the
Nassau to Suffolk Bicycle Challenge and other Kiwanis community
projects; and
WHEREAS, This valued member exemplifies the true spirit and essence of
Kiwanis; Cesar Sosa rose to the esteemed position of North Shore Kiwanis
President serving from 2012 until the end of his term in March of 2014,
having brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the Club; today, he
continues to serve with distinction as a member on the board of direc-
tors; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cesar Sosa, Immediate Past President of the North Shore Kiwanis
Club, at the Club's 46th Annual Charter Night on May 15, 2014; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cesar Sosa.
