LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending John DeLosa upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the
Year Award by the American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facil-
ity, Inc.
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, John DeLosa has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend John DeLosa
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Victor V.
Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by the American Legion Kings
County Youth Recreational Facility, Inc.; his contributions to the
community will be celebrated at the organization's 20th Annual Baseball
Fundraiser on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant, Brooklyn,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facility,
Inc. provides and maintains baseball fields for use by neighborhood
youth organizations and schools in Brooklyn, New York, allowing thou-
sands of children to play baseball in a clean and safe environment at no
cost to them or their families; and
WHEREAS, John DeLosa was born and raised in the Cobble Hill section of
Brooklyn; he attended Saint Paul's Elementary School and Bishop Loughlin
Memorial High School in Brooklyn, and Manhattan College in Riverdale,
New York, and holds a Federal Communications Electronics License, along
with certificates in fire suppression and occupational safety; and
WHEREAS, A successful construction executive, since 1996 John DeLosa
has served as Chief of Field Operations and co-owner of Long & DeLosa
Construction Group, Ltd; and
WHEREAS, John DeLosa has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A compassionate man, he has helped to raise funds for Ameri-
can Legion Baseball, Heart Share Human Services, St. Jude's Children's
Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, F.I.A.O., and Maimonides Medical
Center; in addition, he serves as the Vice President of the Bensonhurst
Bay Ridge Kiwanis Club, and has also held leadership roles with the Bay
Ridge Development Corporation, and the Brooklyn Council of the Boy
Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, John DeLosa played a key role in founding the Annual Cele-
bration of Lights, a month long series of tree-lightings held at 31
churches around Brooklyn, and co-sponsored by Maimonides Center; now in
its 19th year of raising funds for education in Brooklyn, he still
shepherds this extraordinary event as a member of its Advisory Board;
and
WHEREAS, John DeLosa, known for his passion for hockey, also serves
his community via that passion; he began coaching youth ice hockey in
1995, and is currently a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach; this ener-
getic volunteer served as Vice President of the Greater New York Ice
Hockey League, and as Tournament Director of the Long Island Ice Hockey
Association; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, John DeLosa has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 29 years, Evelyn,
and their children: Michael, along with his wife, Nicole, and daughter
Velouria; and Joseph, along with his fiancee Danielle, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which John DeLosa has displayed throughout
his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend John DeLosa upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by the American
Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facility, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John DeLosa.
