LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Andrew L. Manicone upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Thomas Colasanto Humanitarian
Award by the American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facility,
Inc.

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Andrew L. Manicone has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Andrew L.
Manicone upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Thomas
Colasanto Humanitarian Award by the American Legion Kings County Youth
Recreational Facility, Inc.; his contributions to the community will be
celebrated at the organization's 20th Annual Baseball Fundraiser on
Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Gargiulo's Restaurant, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facility,
Inc. provides and maintains baseball fields for use by neighborhood
youth organizations and schools in Brooklyn, New York, allowing thou-
sands of children to play baseball in a clean and safe environment at no
cost to them or their families; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Manicone was born in Brooklyn, New York, moved to Long
Island at age 10, and enlisted in the United States Army at age 17; he
served his country with honor and distinction for three years, first in
Germany from 1967-1969, and then moving on to Chu Lai and Da Nang in
Vietnam; he is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, as
well as the Vietnam Veterans, and serves as the Veterans Coordinator to
the Brooklyn Diocese; and
WHEREAS, Andrew L. Manicone has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Since 1996, this compassionate man has been active in Kiwanis
Club, which is dedicated to helping children; Andrew Manicone is a
member of the Kings Plaza-Canarsie Club, serving for five years as its
President, and Honorary Member of the West End Marine Park Dyker Heights
Club; he is Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Manicone is also a member of the Knights of Columbus,
where he serves as Patriot; the American Legion, in which he is Comman-
der of Victor Allegretti Post 1872; the St. Athanasius Rosary Society;
and Vice-President of Bay Ridge UNICO of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, For the last 10 years, Andrew Manicone has helped to organize
the Children's Christmas Party at Fort Hamilton Army Base in Brooklyn,
New York, taking it upon himself to secure significant donations of
funds, toys and food, and to recruit many volunteers to make it possible
for the children of active and military families to have a memorable
Christmas; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Manicone's charitable efforts have been recognized by
others; he is the recipient of Kiwanis Club's highest honor, the Kaiser
Award, and has also received the Community Service Award from the Corona
Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Andrew L. Manicone has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 41 years, Rose
Anne, and their sons, Andrew Jr. and Robert, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Andrew L. Manicone has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Andrew L. Manicone upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Thomas Colasanto Humanitarian Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andrew L. Manicone.
